My Timeline

I got this idea from a current volunteer’s blog. People always have questions about how long the application process takes and what’s all involved, so I thought she was genius in creating a timeline to provide some insight into her personal experience and I decided I would do the same.

January 2017: Decide to research and apply for the Peace Corps

February 28, 2017Complete and submit application and health history form

March 1, 2017: Complete and submit country of service preference and soft skills questionnaire

March 3, 2017Receive email saying my application is under review and should I be selected they will contact me for an interview

April 4, 2017Receive email to schedule interview, schedule interview for Tuesday April 18th 

April 14, 2017: Reschedule interview for Wednesday April 19th

April 17, 2017Reschedule interview for May 2nd

May 2, 2017Participate in Skype interview (mine lasted about 45 mins)

May 9. 2017Receive and accept email stating that I have been selected to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer, pending legal and medical clearance

May 10, 2017Receive information on the next steps (legal and medical clearance as well as applying for a visa and a passport)

May 16, 2017Placement Office receives fingerprint cards and begins background check

June 30, 2017Submit all medical tasks

September 13. 2017Submit more medical tasks

October 13, 2017: Submit what is hopefully my last medical task

October 16, 2017: Receive medical and dental clearance

January 17, 2018Receive legal clearance

February 4, 2018: Leave home and fly to staging

February 5, 2018: Participate in staging in Philadelphia, PA

February 6, 2018Board plane to Africa; leave U.S.

February 15, 2018Meet host family

March 22-31, 2018Find out site placement and visit site for first time

April 19, 2018Swearing-In Ceremony
