If you know me, you know that this blog has begun for the sole purpose of documenting my many upcoming adventures, as I have been accepted to the Peace Corps and I will be departing to Tanzania, Africa in February this next year! For those of you who do not know me or maybe know who I am but know nothing about me here’s a little background as to how I got to this point:
I was born in Riverside, California, although we only lived there a very short time before moving to Blackfoot, Idaho where I would reside for the next 16 years. Growing up I made close friends, some of whom I am still close with today. In high school I danced competitively with a team in my town, had a job, and was an active participant in student government my senior year. In January of 2013 I accepted my invitation to the University of Idaho and prepared for a journey I could have never anticipated.
That Fall I packed my bags and headed north where I chose to participate in sorority rush. At the end of that daunting week I was invited to join the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and I accepted. Through this organization I made some of the most unlikely of friends, had experiences I will never forget, and met some of the people who encouraged me to pursue this new adventure. While in school I had a few jobs, was a full time student, and participated in numerous sorority events. In May of 2017 I graduated from the University of Idaho with a bachelors of science in Sociology and a minor in Psychology and Addictions.
Not four days before graduation I received and accepted my invitation to serve in the United States Peace Corps. In February of 2018 I will be departing to Tanzania, Africa, where I will be a Community Service Volunteer with the Health sector. My primary duties with be to help community members understand and promote healthy practices and behaviors as well as raising awareness about health related issues such as: HIV/AIDS, malaria, and basic nutrition education.
I could not be more excited about the next couple of years, and I am so thankful to the people who have helped me get where I am today and encouraged me to pursue this once in a lifetime adventure.
